Witnessing as a Church Acts 4: 7-12 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
What it takes for our church to get the job of witnessing done according to the Acts of the Apostles.
These are the essential elements of fulfilling the great commission in our church.
Preaching Jesus – Acts 4:7-12. Acts 5:42, Acts 8:12, Acts 8:35. We can and should build relationships with people. We should converse with people to get an opening for the gospel. But, at some point, we must preach Jesus. If folks are going to get saved, we must tell them about our Lord.
Prayer – Acts 4:31. Acts 1:14, Acts 2:42; Acts 6:4. Prayer gets you interceding for others along with Jesus [Heb 7:25; Rom 8:34] and the Holy Spirit [Rom 8:26]. You may be more effective praying for others who are witnessing than you can be witnessing yourself.
The Holy Ghost – Acts 4:31. Acts 1:8, Acts 2:4. This is spiritual work and it cannot be done without the Holy Spirit. Men have devised all kinds of means and programs to witness, many of which leave God out of his own business. Too much man; not enough God. You are much better off being filled with the Spirit than you are being filled with a soul-winning program.
The word of God – Acts 4:31. Acts 6:2-4, 7. Ultimately, we must get the Bible open in front of lost people. People are born again by the word of God when they believe what God said [1 Pet 1:23; Jas 1:21].
Boldness – Acts 4:31 – you must speak the word of God with boldness see. Acts 4:13 and Eph 6:18-19. As bold as Paul was, he asked the Ephesians to pray for him to have boldness. We have no reason to be timid with or ashamed of the gospel of Jesus.
The church in one accord – Acts 4:32, they were of one heart and one soul. Acs 1:42, Acts 2:46, Acts 4:24. We must all be doing our part for the common cause of getting the gospel to others who don’t know Jesus.
Conclusion: if we will do these things we will be doing what God gave the church to do from the beginning. You can leave the increase to God.
