Why Trust in the Lord, Ps 32:10

We know that we are supposed to trust in the Lord, but why?  You trust in the Lord for:

Mercy – Ps 32:10 – salvation is in the Lord.  We need his mercy and he extends it to us by trusting Jesus Christ as our Saviour [Titus 3:5].

Happiness – Prov 16:20 – one of the greatest reasons to part with the world after we get saved is to begin to enjoy true happiness.  Happiness comes by trusting in the Lord.

Direction – Prov 3:5-6 – after we are saved, our steps must be ordered by the Lord.  They are when we trust in him [Ps 37:23].

Blessing – Ps 84:12 – Jer 17:7 [contrast Jer 17:5].  The man who is blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord.  And like the faithful man we should want to abound with the Lord’s blessings.

Safety – Prov 29:25 – 2 Sam 22:31 says, “he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.”  Sennacherib didn’t believe this and even said so [2 Ki 18:30].  He was wrong.  Ps 18:2 is true.

Courage – Ps 112:7 – evidently there are plenty of things to fear these days, because so many people are afraid.  Christians should not be afraid.  By trusting in the Lord, Christians have no reason to fear [Ps 56:3, 11].

Strength – Is 26:4 – we can look to the Lord to strengthen us for anything he gives us to do and for anything we must face in life.  Paul said, “be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might,” [Eph 6:10].  David said, “I will go in the strength of the Lord God,” [Ps 71:16].

Conclusion: when you trust in the Lord, others can see that the Lord is blessing you with his mercy, happiness, direction, blessings, safety, courage, and strength.  We have a testimony of God’s faithfulness.  Like the Psalmist said in Ps 73:28, “I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy works.”  By trusting in the Lord others will turn to the Lord. As Ps 40:3 says, “many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord.”  With a life of trusting the Lord we can, indeed, be witnesses for the Lord.
