Persuaded by the Resurrection, Lk 16:31

A conversation with the rich man in hell

In Lk 16:19-31, when the rich man was in hell, he asked Abraham to send Lazarus to his brothers to keep them from coming “into this place of torment,” Lk 16:28.  Yet, Abraham replied, “They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them,” Lk 16:29.  Nevertheless, the rich man retorted, “Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent,” Lk 16:30.  Therefore, Abraham ended the discussion with, “If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead,” Lk 16:31. Sadly, the rich man thought his brothers would be persuaded by the resurrection. If that were the case, many more would be saved today.

You should be persuaded by the resurrection

Let me tell you something. Jesus Christ rose from the dead.  What a miracle that was.  Then he ascended into heaven.  There are over 500 eyewitnesses to his resurrection in 1 Cor 15:5-8.  There were multiple eyewitnesses to his ascension in Acts 1:9.  And yet, for all this, the unbelievers aren’t persuaded by his resurrection.  Jesus resurrection is a documented, historical fact. For more information see The Doctrine of the Resurrection.

They aren’t persuaded by the resurrection

That Jesus is real

Many believe that Jesus is a fairy tell like Santa Claus.  However, he performed miracles that only God can do, Jn 9:32-33.  He raised Lazarus from the dead after he had been in the grave for four days.  Nevertheless, the Pharisees said that he had a devil.  Jesus rebuffed their nonsensical gainsaying by telling them that Satan would be divided against himself, if Satan were casting out devils.  Then Jesus rose from the dead. And they aren’t persuaded by his resurrection.

That hell is real

Jesus warned these naysayers to escape the damnation of hell, Matt 23:23.  However, like the rich man, they didn’t think hell was real or else they didn’t think they were going there.  The rich man didn’t believe it till he saw it for himself.  He felt the torment and he saw the flame.  He was such a believer after going to hell that he became a witness.

That Jesus is the Creator

The remarkable thing about all evolutionists is that they don’t have a clue how life started.  The law of biogenesis, a scientific law, states that life comes from life.  Jn 1:1-4 tells you where life started.  We were created. In Mk 10:6 and Mk 13:19 Jesus affirmed that Moses was right in Genesis 1 and 2.  Moreover, Rom 1:20 tells us that if you look at the things God made, you can clearly see the invisible things of him.  Nevertheless, evolutionists are blinded by their foolish wisdom.  They started their fairy tale with the notion that God didn’t make everything.  According to Col 1:16-17 and Heb 11:3, they are dead wrong.

That Jesus can save them

Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead in Jn 11.  He saved the penitent thief in Lk 23.  Jesus took captivity captive out of Abraham’s bosom in Eph 4.  He saved me.  Jesus appeared to Saul and saved him in Acts 9.   And he’s coming again to raise our bodies so we’ll never die again, 1 Thes 4.

Will you be persuaded by the resurrection?

You have a problem with death.  And the only one who can solve your problem with death is the one who defeated death, Heb 2:14-15.  Evidently, people who don’t believe this don’t think they need saving.  They’re just like the rich man in hell.

You better get saved.  Because when you get to hell you will find out you are too late.  Once you are in hell, you’ll spend eternity in fire.  The best thing for you to do is to be persuaded by the resurrection that you need to be saved.  Call on Jesus Christ.  He’ll save you.
