There is no other foundation upon which to build your life than the firm foundation of Jesus Christ.  Jesus said in Matt 16:18. “Upon his rock I will build my church.”  If Jesus is the rock upon which the Church is built, then you can be sure he is the firm foundation upon which you should build your life.  Jesus’ firm foundation is a:

Secure Foundation – Ps 40:2 says, “He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.”  When we were saved, the Lord brought us up out of a wretched pit of sin and set us upon the rock of Jesus Christ.  Therefore, we should build our lives on him and not on a weaker foundation.  David said of the Lord, “Thou art my rock and my fortress,” [Ps 71:3].  According to Matt 7:24-25, winds and waves (the storms of life) can’t move us when our lives are built on Jesus.  Any other foundation is just shifting sand.

Superior Foundation – According to 1 Pet 2:6 and Eph 2:20, Jesus Christ is “the chief cornerstone.”  Thus he is superior to all other gods and to any other foundation upon which you can build your life.  Moses said about other religions, “Their rock is not as our Rock,” [Deut 32:18].  That’s because our “rock that is higher than I,” [Ps 61:2].  He’s up in heaven and everything else is down here and subject to destruction.

Supernatural Foundation – all other foundations are man-made.  Jesus Christ, on the other hand, is ‘a living stone,” [1 Pet 2:4].  When he was in the wilderness with Israel, he was the rock from which Israel drank water [1 Cor 10:4].  When you trust him, you have the water of life.  He is the Rock of our salvation [Deut 32:15].

Sempiternal Foundation – yes, Sempiternal is a word.  It simply means “of never ending duration, everlasting.”  When all other foundation have been destroyed the only one left standing will be the foundation of Jesus Christ.  When you have him, you have eternal life [1 Jn 5:12] and nothing down here can ever shake your life no matter how bad it may seem.  You are on the solid rock of Jesus and no one can shake him.

Conclusion: Is Jesus your firm foundation?  David said in 2 Sam 22:2, 47, “the Lord is MY rock… blessed be MY rock; and exalted be the God of the rock of MY salvation.”  If Jesus is not your firm foundation yet, he can be today if you will trust him.  And if he is already your foundation, then never worry about bad news, terror, financial distress, family discord, international conflicts and political unrest.  You are standing on the solid rock!!
