Cleansing Compound
God has given us three things to cleanse us from sin and to keep us clean.
These three things have their separate functions but they work together as a cleansing compound. You need all three, not just one.
For example, you need three ingredients to get skunk smell off of a dog. 1 qt 3% Hydrogen Peroxide, 1/4 cup Baking Soda, and 1 teaspoon liquid dish soap. It takes all three working together. This combination works.
The three things that work together to keep us clean are the blood of Jesus Christ, the word of God, and the Holy Spirit.
The Blood of Jesus Christ – 1 Jn 1:7-9.
The Word of God – Eph 5:25-26; Jn 15:3.
The Spirit of God – Titus 3:5; 1 Cor 6:9-11.
The Blood of Jesus erases our past. The blood of Jesus also keeps you clean when you confess your sins and he forgives you and cleanses you. It also keeps us from building up iniquity unto iniquity. For example, brushing your teeth regularly and more than once per day keeps plaque and tartar from building up on your teeth.
This is why Catholic confession never worked. The priest said he would absolve your sin. But the blood of Christ was not applied to cleanse you. So, you kept coming back to the confessional with same sin.
Likewise, Christians who just pray a “blanket” prayer like “forgive us of our sins”, never really confess their sins. If you confess your sins this way, you just never change.
The Word of God gives you understanding of what is wickedness and what is righteousness. It instructs you in righteousness and away from wickedness. And it has the miraculous ability, as it gets in you, to change you and cleanse you inside out.
Most people don’t spend enough time in the word (reading and meditating) to allow this effect. Some things you clean must be allowed to soak to lift the stain. You need to soak up the word.
Prov 16:6 By mercy (connected with the blood) and truth (connected with the word) iniquity is purged; and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.
It’s interesting that Pharisees and JW’s know some word, but they use it to put down the flesh. They’re filthy inside. Need the combination of the word and blood to be cleansed inside out.
The Holy Spirit is clean and he cleans out the space he occupies in his temple. Eph 5:18. Lk 11:36 “If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light”.
He is the “Holy” spirit. The other spirits are unclean. The Holy Spirit gets unclean spirits out and takes over the space until he fills it. He cleans house.
The Cleansing Compound: Once the Holy Spirit starts cleaning you, then he shows you the word that addresses a sin that must be confessed and cleansed by the blood. And then he fills the space to keep it clean. This is a daily cleansing.
When you quit reading your Bible, sin builds up. When you quit confessing your sin, sin builds up. When you quit yielding to the Holy Spirit, sin builds up. This cleaning must be your daily routine maintenance.
Conclusion: start applying this cleansing compound today. If you are not saved you have none of these spiritual cleansing agents working in you. Receive Jesus and then his blood, his word, and his Spirit will clean you and keep you clean.
