What Happens to Your Body When You Get Saved 1 Cor. 6:15 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
When you get saved, your spirit comes to life, you are born again, Jn 3:3-8, and the Spirit of God dwells in you, 1 Cor 6:19-20. But that’s not all. Something spiritual and miraculous happens to your body. What happens to your body when you get saved is this:
Your body is circumcised from your spirit and soul – Col 2:11-13. This is called spiritual circumcision whereby the body of the sins of the flesh is put off.
Your body is crucified with Christ – Rom 6:6. Paul calls this body “our old man”. This is the process whereby the body of sin is destroyed. We are dead to sin, Rom 6:2, 7. This body is buried with him in baptism, Rom 6:4.
Your body is quickened by the Spirit – Rom 8:10-11; Col 2:12-13. When you get saved your body is quickened by the Spirit. It’s alive but it awaits its redemption at which time it will be glorified, Rom 8:23-24; 2 Cor 5:2-5. This is our new man that we put on, Eph 4:22-24. We are new creatures in Christ 2 Cor 5:17. Now this is a very fine and interesting point. Your body is the dwelling place of your spirit and your soul. When you are saved your body also becomes the dwelling place of the Lord, Col 1:27. But your body is not your flesh, Rom 8:8. Your flesh is the natural material of which your body is made. After we are saved we still have flesh. It doesn’t change and must die a natural death or be changed at the rapture, 1 Cor 15:50-55. Therefore we are instructed to walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit, Rom 8:1, 4; Gal 5:16. That’s why Paul said, “For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain”, Phil 1:21. He said, “I die daily”, 1 Cor 15:31, in order to keep his flesh in subjection.
Your body is made a member of Christ – 1 Cor 6:15; 1 Cor 12:12-27. Now as a member of Christ’s body, God wants to use your body for a specific function. He sets the members in the body as it pleases him, 1 Cor 12:18. He may want you to be a preacher or a missionary, he may want you to be a professional, or he may want you to be a nurse or a doctor. Whatever the case, he wants you to be a witness, sowing the seed of the word of God and reaping when there is a harvest. That’s why Paul said in 1 Cor 6:13-20 that it is so important for us to flee fornication. In fornication you make a member of Christ one body with a harlot.
Your body is raptured when Christ returns – 1 Thes 4:13-18; Phil 3:21. If you die before the Lord returns, your “body” will be laid to rest and if you are alive when he returns, your body will be changed. The dead in Christ are raised incorruptible and those alive in Christ are changed into immortality. Our “vile body” will be “fashioned like unto his glorious body”. And in these glorified bodies we will live with the Lord for ever.
Conclusion: You are bought with a price therefore glorify God in your BODY and your spirit which are God’s. Dear saints there is little in our bodies that we do to glorify God. This must change!!
