Living in the Will of God Matt. 26:39 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
Living in the will of God is a daily challenge. In order to live in the will of God you must follow some important spiritual truths from the Bible. To live in the will of God you must:
Yield to God’s will at all times – Matt 26:39 – your will and God’s will are often not the same – in this verse we see that even Jesus, who did always those things that pleased God, struggled the night before his crucifixion with the desire to do his own will – he yielded to his Father’s will but he desired to do his will – you will face continual struggles between your will and God’s will.
Work out God’s will with the fear of God – Phil 2:12-13 – from this passage you see that God is in you both to will and to do his good pleasure – so you and I must work his will on the outside – in other words, what he is doing on the inside must take over what we do on the outside – and since you have a will and God has a will, his will prevails through your fear – look how this worked in Jesus’ life [Heb 5:7] – this fear is not just reverence for God – this is fear and trembling – this fear is the fear of God that governs you 24 hours per day and it is a fear that draws you to the Lord rather than away from him and away from your desires and the fear of others.
This fear that motivates you is not the fear of the consequences – that fear only works as long as there are consequences that are in close enough proximity to be effective and that are severe enough to convince you – this fear is not the fear of disappointing God – that fear is counterproductive because you are the one deciding what disappoints him and you are only concerned with making what you do look good [like a Pharisee] – neither of those leads to the Lord’s will.
This fear governs who you are not what you do. By the fear of God you become what God wants you to become so you can do what he wants you to do.
Trust the Lord’s will for your life – Prov 3:5-6 – when you trust the Lord’s will for your life, you follow his direction like you are following your GPS – the Lord tells you which direction to go and where to stay straight and where and when to turn – the trouble with many of us is that we don’t want to trust his will.
Follow God’s revealed will in his words – Ps 119:105 – God’s words are a lamp to guide our feet so that we can see what it right in the vicinity of where we are walking and they are a light to guide our path so that we can see where we are going – you cannot live the will of God without the words of God.
Do God’s will when he shows you – Jas 1:22 – we are to be doers of the word and not hearers only – you don’t want to be guilty of rebelling against God’s revealed will – nor do you want to be negligent to do what he has clearly shown you to do.
When you are uncertain, pray for wisdom to know his will – Jas 1:5-8 – the Lord will give you the wisdom to know what to do – but you don’t want to be double minded about it – it is easy to be double minded about the Lord’s will when you consider that we have our will and he has his – when you are determined to do his will, he will certainly show you.
Wait patiently to do God’s will in his time – Jas 1:4 – patience – give time for OGd to work out his will in his time – he that hasteth with his feet sinneth – in living God’s will, young men have a tendency to turn too early and old men have a tendency to turn too late – be willing to wait for God to bring his will to pass in your life.
Remember that God’s will is better than your will – Rom 8:28 is certainly true for all those who are living in the will of God rather than their own – some of the things that come your way aren’t going to seem good in and of themselves, but working together with everything else they are going to be good – and they are surely going to be better than what happens when you live in your will.
