There are times when we hear of people in great need.  And in those times that we have the wherewithal to help meet the need, God wants us to help.  He said, “Withhold not good from them to whom it is due”, Prov 3:27-28.  

What is good that we should not withhold?  Jas 2:15-16 says, “If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; was doth it profit”?  Withhold not good for the things which are needful to the body.

Who are they to whom it is due?  Well, according to Gal 6:10, we should “do good unto all men”.  But we should especially do good to “them who are the household of faith”.  Our brother is of the household of faith and the people with whom he works in India are also of the household of faith.  And they are also trying to do good to all men that they might see more saved still.

When should we do good to them?  Gal 6:10 says “As we therefore have opportunity”.  You should do good during those times “when it is in the power of thine hand to do it”, and “when thou hast it by thee”.  The Lord said, in those times not to wait till tomorrow.  

Why should we do good?  We should withhold not good because the love of God dwells in us.  In 1 Jn 3:17, John asked, “But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him”?  If you truly love God, you cannot shut up your bowels of compassion.  So, John wrote in 1 Jn 3:18, “My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth”.

So, withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.  You meet their need, you bring glory to God, and you open an opportunity for the gospel to be preached.
