We Walk in the Light 1 John 1:5-7 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
We walk in the light according to 1 Jn 5:7. God is light. Jesus Christ is the light of the world. The word is light. So, as we have fellowship with the Lord and we are in his word then we walk in the light. When you think about God and hid words as the source of light, then here are some things that are true.
When you walk toward the light, you walk in the light – because you are facing the light and it directs your path – where you need to go and the path you need to take to get there.
The nearer to the source the brighter the light appears – 2 Cor 4:5-6 – so the idea is to get as close as you can to the Lord and his words. His light is going to likewise be very bright in your life. The scriptures are going to be very bright in your life to guide you.
The nearer to the source the more light you reflect – we are not the source of the light but we reflect the light that comes from the Lord and from his words. The moon reflects the full force of the sun when it is full. To be a good witness we need to get very close to the source of light.
The brighter the light that is in you the more revealing it is – Jn 3:19-21 “men loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil… neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved” – we go to the light to get a full dose so that our deeds may be made manifest – and then when we are around the lost, the light that is in us reproves their deeds – Eph 5:7-14 – the light that is in us reproves the works of darkness – like a bright light that shines in a dark room at night, those who see the light in you are not going to like it at first – it’s too bright.
But when you walk away from the light, you walk in your shadow – when you walk in your shadow you can’t see the path because it is in your shadow – Ps 119:105 – when turn your back on the light of God’s words, you walk in darkness not in light – so backsliding begins while you are still in church – you quit listening to the preaching – then the further you get from the light, in time, you end up out of church.
If you let something get between you and the light, you walk in darkness – the moon sometimes eclipses the sun – likewise, there are things that come between you and the light of the Lord and his words – Job 12:25 – you know when you are in intense light and you also know when you are not – you know what is between you and the Lord – often for teens it is a relationship – sin in your life will get between you and the light – the worst place for a Christian to be is in darkness.
Conclusion: don’t let anything get between you and the light – the light of God and his words never dim – but things between us and them can surely sim the light – we need to stay as close as we can to the Lord and his words.
