Trusting the word of the Lord

Trusting the Word of God

Psalm 105:19

This verse in Psalms is one of the great verse in the bible on being tested or tried by the Lord. There is a lot of time and many things that happen to Joseph between the phrase “Until the time that his word came” and the second half of the verse, “the word of the Lord tried him”.

In this sermon we will walk through some of the things that tried Joseph while he was waiting on the word to come true.

1)  Joseph tried by rejection (Genesis 37:20-27)

  • He was not just shunned by his brothers he was hated, with them plotting to kill him.

2)  Joseph was tried by sin (Genesis 39:1-20)

  • Joseph was tempted in a way that many fail at every day. Note that he focus was not the part about sinning against his master but he was more concerned about sinning against God.

3)  Joseph was tried by the dreams and success of others (Genesis 40:1-23)

  • Imagine Joseph having to interpret the dreams of others when he was where he was on account of his dreams. But then he also had to see dreams of others fulfilled while he was forgotten.

Two important things to note in all of this:

1)  The word of the Lord was trying Joseph but it was with him and protected him. It did not allow Joseph brothers to kill him and it blessed him not matter what his state.

2) In all of the temptations we see Joseph serving (Genesis 37:12-14 ; Genesis 39:4 ; Genesis 40:4)

The Key to service is Faithfulness (1 Corinthians 4:2)

1)  The prerequisite for service is faithfulness (1 Timothy 1:12)

2)  The measurement of service is faithfulness (Luke 16:10-12)

3)  The reward for service based on faithfulness (Luke 19:11-24)

Like Joseph we must simply be faithful while we are waiting on the word of the Lord to come!
