The Greatest Love Story

The Greatest Love Story

1 John 4:7-10

Love is probably one of the most misunderstood words that we use today. In our society love has become all about feelings and emotions. What we have to remember is that love is an action it is a choice. God shows us this in our passage.

In this sermon we are going to be looking at the passage verse by verse in order to learn some key things regarding the love of God.

1)  Love is of God (verse 7)

  • God is the origin of love (Example of Adam and Eve as a type of Jesus and the Church)
  • This is why verse like Psalm 103:4 and Proverbs 19:14 are so important for young people seeking love.

2)  God is Love (verse 8)

  • The definition of love is to give (John 3:16)
  • Adam was not deceived in the transgression (1 Timothy 3:14) but he gave all for love.

3)  God manifested his Love to us (verse 9)

  • This is shown to us in Romans 5:8.
  • Adam became sin for Eve just as Jesus became sin for us (2 Corinthians 5:21)

4)  God’s Love is Final (verse 10)

  • Note the phrase “herein is love”
  • Propitiation by definition is to appease the wrath of an offended person. Adam could not do this for Eve.
  • Jesus did this be suffering hell (Acts 2:31 ; Isaiah 53:10-12).
  • This show us the truth behind exactly why a loving God can and must send someone to hell who rejects Jesus Christ.
