The Bible mentions five things that are sound.  Sound means founded in truth; firm; right; correct; free from error; not defective.  Sound also means firm, strong, solid, not feeble, not wandering.  These are five sound things you need.  You need:

Sound wisdom – Prov 2:7, 3:21, 8:14 – Prov 2:7 says, “He (the Lord) layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous.”  Prov 3:21 says, “keep sound wisdom and discretion.” Prov 8:14 says, “Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.”  Sound wisdom comes from the Lord, Jas 3:17. His wisdom is absolutely true and right.  You can count on it every time and in all circumstances.  So, seek the Lord’s sound wisdom in everything that you do, think, and say and you’ll be right with God.

Sound doctrine – 1 Tim 1:10, 2 Tim 4:3, Titus 1:9, – According to Titus 1:9, sound doctrine comes from the faithful words of God. Sound doctrine has not been corrupted by men, Titus 2:7.  With it a man can exhort and convince gainsayers.  Unfortunately, we live in an age where most men will not endure sound doctrine.  Many people today live “contrary to sound doctrine,” 1 Tim 1:9-10, and, thus, it is politically incorrect to even mention sound doctrine in most places.  Regardless how the world views sound doctrine, you need it to live right with God.  People don’t want to endure it now, 2 Tim 4:3. Endure it; don’t be ashamed of it.

Sound words – 2 Tim 1:13 – Paul wrote, “Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.”  Sound words are words spoken from the mouth of godly counselors, Spirit-filled preachers, and wise saints that will guide you in truth to a right relationship with the Lord.  You need people in your life who are able and not afraid to speak sound words to you.  Give them an obedient ear, Prov 25:12.

Sound mind – 2 Tim 1:7 – “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”  You need a sound mind in order to think correctly.  Your mind needs to be firm and solid, not feeble and wandering.  Today, many people are confused and fearful.  They can’t think straight.  They are scatter brained.  God didn’t give you that kind of mind.  He gave you a sound mind.  You need to use it and keep it sound.

Sound speech – Titus 2:8 – Paul told Titus that he needed “Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.”  In Titus 2:1, he wrote, “But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine.”  If you’re going to speak at all, you need to know that what you are saying is correct and true, as the oracles of God, 1 Pet 4:11.  You cannot repeat things you have seen in emails and learned through social media, if you are not 100% certain that those things are true, correct and free from error.  Much of what you hear today is conjecture, suspicion, and emotional outrage, without basis in fact.  Don’t repeat it.  You speak the truth; make sure your speech is sound.

Conclusion: these are five sound things you need.  Devote yourself to them.  Live by them.  They are yours from the Lord to help you be a solid, true Christian who is right with God.
