Personal Witness of Jesus
John 4 is the only place in the New Testament where you see the personal witness of Jesus. What he said and how he handled the conversation with the woman at the well is a great example of how we should witness to the lost. Notice these details:
You must go where sinners are – Jn 4:4.
You must talk to people – Jn 4:7.
You must bring up eternal matters – Jn 4:10. By the second sentence, Jesus introduced “living water”. She didn’t immediately get where he was going, Jn 4:11-12. But sinners generally don’t have a clue about these eternal matters at first.
You must deal with the subject of sin – Jn 4:16-18. They must see themselves for what they really are.
You must expect them to “hide” in their religion – Jn 4:20. She was comparing her religion with the Jews’ religion. Salvation is not about your religion or church, Jn 4:21.
You mustn’t let their false hope go unchallenged – Jn 4:22. Jesus said, “Ye worship ye know not what…”.
You must deal with their spirit according to truth – Jn 4:22-24. The truth is in the Bible.
They must see Jesus for who he really is – Jn 4:25-26. When they begin to see Jesus, they’re not far away. And when they believe on him, he saves them. Jn 4:29 she was unashamed of her need of forgiveness. Jn 4:41-21 she truly believed and so did many more.
Conclusion: these examples from the personal witness of Jesus are more instructive than all the books you can read and seminars you can attend on soul winning. Follow his example.
