Principles of Giving

Proverbs 11:25 with 2 Corinthians 8:1-14

Two words are used in this Proverb that are used much differently than we use them today. These two words are liberal and fat. We will look at some verses to show us the biblical meaning of these words.

Liberal: (1 Corinthians 16:3 ; 2 Corinthians 8:3 ; 2 Corinthians 9:13 ; James 1:5)

Fat: (Proverbs 13:4 15:30 ; 28:25)

The New Testament counter part to Proverbs 11:25 is found in 2 Corinthians 8:1-14.

Principles of Giving:

1)  Jesus Christ is our example in giving (verse 9)

2)  First you must give yourself to the Lord (verse 5)

3)  Trials and tribulation makes us better givers (verse 2)

4)  What God does and does not expect (verses 11, 12)

What is the end goal of our giving? (2 Corinthians 9:8-15)

• Multiply seed sown
• Thanksgiving is given to God
• God is glorified
• Prayer are offered
