Not Forsaking the Assembling of Ourselves Together (Part 2)

Not Forsaking the Assembling of Ourselves Together (Part 2)

Hebrews 10:19-25

In the previous lesson we made some spiritual applications for why we should attend church and how that connects to our families. Here we will look at how we can implement some of those points in our lives. (Note we will be starting from the previous lessons points at the second point and looking at the last three points from that lesson).

1)  Drawing near to the High Priest, Jesus Christ

  • Church Fellowship and having a good time with our brothers and sisters in Christ is an important part of going to church. But the primary reason above all else is Jesus Christ.
  • Jesus Christ should have the preeminence (Colossians 1:15-19). Our real purpose in going to church should be Jesus Christ, if it is anything else it will not last.
  • People and relationships will always let you down that is why it must be about Jesus Christ.
  • Note what David said regarding dwelling in the house of the Lord (Psalm 27:1-4) and he was not even a Levite in that day.

2)  Holding fast the profession of our faith

  • We must be actively engaged in learning. This will mean attending more than just one or two services. This will mean Sunday School, bible studies at church as well as special meetings.
  • You must know what to believe if you are going to hold fast to your profession (1 Thessalonians 5:21 ; 2 Thessalonians 2:15 ; 2 Timothy 1:13 ; Titus 1:9)

3)  Provoking unto love and good works

  • One of the best ways to provoke one another to love and good works is by doing them yourselves.
  • One of the best passages for this is Philippians 2:-11.
  • In this passage we see that love will be a sacrifice, remember it is not about you. We see that serving will take time, you must invest yourself. Lastly we see that Jesus is going to be glorified in the end, therefore we should want to be a part of him being glorified.
