Maturity – Kevin Beier

Kevin Beier preached this message on maturity.

In Gal 4:17, the son is not ready to receive the inheritance until he is mature.  We are supposed to receive an inheritance in the future.  So, we should be maturing now.  Christians are called “perfect” in the Bible when they are mature.

In Lk 6:40 maturity is that you become like Jesus, 2 Pet 3:18, Rom 8:29.  Study Jesus and see how he handles every situation.   We are to become like him.

In Lk 6:39 maturity is recognizing you need to be led.  Maturing Christians learn from others, particularly those who are over us.  Be like the ones who are becoming like Christ.

In Lk 6:41-42 maturity is fixing yourself before attempting to help someone else fix themselves.

How to grow in maturity.  When we are mature, we are fully developed.  However, this is not just growing in age or stature.

True maturity requires two deliberate decisions.  You must follow after Jesus.  And you must yield to God’s work in your life.

Bro Beier has been maturing in grief, after the death of his spouse.  Some are maturing in prayer.  We usually mature in times of trouble, what we call ‘valleys’.  How you respond reveals whether you’re growing.

Conclusion: To mature takes time and takes testing, and requires that you’re learning.  When you’re in a time of testing, pray that God will give you the grace to get through it.
