Give to Missions
Phil 4:10-20 explains why we should give to missions, to whom we should give, when we should give, and what results we can expect from our giving.
Why? Because we care, v.10. To minister to missionaries in their affliction, v.14. To meet their necessity, v.16. And because giving to them is a sacrifice acceptable, well pleasing to God, v.18
To Whom? We should give to the ones God directs us to support, v.15. Initially, Paul was supported by the Philippians only. He only needed them, at first. In Thailand, only 3 churches initially supported the Sehmish family. That was enough.
When? When we have opportunity, v.10. According to v.11-13, sometimes the Lord doesn’t want them to have all and be full. This keeps them dependent upon Jesus. They have to learn this. Godliness with contentment is great gain. Nevertheless, we are to give once and again, v.16.
What results? Missionaries will rejoice in the Lord, v.10. We will receive fruit to our account, v.17. Their needs will be met. Paul said, “I have all and abound”, v.18. And as we give, God supplies our need, v.19 (like a conduit). Ultimately, giving to missions glorifies God, v.20
