Get Up Early
One of the best things you can do to strengthen your eternal life is to do what Abraham did in Gen 19:27. “And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the Lord”. Get up early. Make this your morning routine.
Gat up early. There are numerous references in the Bible to people getting up early in the morning to undertake the Lord’s business first thing. David wrote in Ps 63:1 “O God, thou are my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is”.
Start your day with God. Go to bed earlier so you can get up early. And don’t start “doing” anything until you have sought the Lord. Because once you start doing, you will never be able to return to the quiet stillness of the morning to seek God.
Wisdom says in Prov 8:17, “I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me”. Time with the Lord in quiet prayer, Bible reading, and meditation makes for a much better day than without. This is a great way to manage stress in your life because you find the wisdom you need and you will be in a lot better frame of mind, not rushed.
To the place. There is a place in or around your house where you can get alone with God. There is something about being in “that” place that diminishes the distractions and helps you to concentrate on the Lord and his words.
The beauty of having such a place (or places, if you have more than one) is that you go there specifically to be with God. I have two places like this in my house. One for the early morning and the other for times when I need to seek the Lord privately in prayer about a matter and be able to “hear” from him.
Make sure you establish your place where you get alone with the Lord. And make sure to show up there each day. Daniel went to his place three times a day and didn’t change his routine even though the circumstances in his life had changed, Dan 6:10.
Where he stood before the Lord. Abraham stood before the Lord, when he showed up to tell him what he was getting ready to do to Sodom. And Abraham went back to that spot to see what the Lord had done. I realize this was a single episode, but the verse expresses something that is true about your place.
In Gen 6:9, when the Lord called Adam, he said, “Where art thou”? It’s like they had a place to meet and Adam wasn’t there to meet the Lord, because he was hiding. When you think about Enoch and Noah walking with God, it’s easy to imagine that they had a place where they met each day and started walking together from there.
When you come to your place each morning, the Lord will be waiting for you. He will meet with you there. It’s not that the Lord isn’t always with you wherever you are, he is. But in this place, the Lord knows you are there to meet with him and he will be there for you. Don’t leave him hanging.
Conclusion: Right now, if you haven’t been meeting with the Lord each morning, you probably don’t know the importance of these mornings together with him. When you have been meeting with the Lord regularly, it will feel like you two aren’t walking together if you miss a morning with him. So, get up early and watch how your life with God improves.
