The Eyes of the Lord, Heb 4:13

In the Bible we find much bout the eyes of the Lord.  Today, we’re going to look at five characteristics of his eyes.  The eyes of the Lord are:

Compassionate eyes – Matt 9:36.  When he saw the multitude he was moved with compassion.  In the earthy ministry of Jesus, this is one of the most notable qualities of his eyes.  When he saw someone who had a need, his eyes moved him with compassion.  He couldn’t look without relieving.

Discerning eyes – Heb 4:13.  All things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.  Prov 15:3 the eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.  If you want to know what he sees, read his words, Heb 4:12.  He doesn’t miss anything.

You’re not getting away with anything, when you think you are getting away with something.  He sees it all, right down to what you’re thinking. That’s what freaked out the Pharisees.

Terrifying eyes – Rev 1:14.  His eyes were as a flame of fire.  Prov 20:8 scattereth away all evil with his eyes.  Just knowing that he sees keeps the evil scattered.  You should be aware that God sees.  And he does something about what he sees.  Look what Hezekiah prayed in 2 Chr 29:6-9.

Listen, the eyes of the Lord should strike fear in your heart.  Not only does he see, but he has the power to destroy.  He will not put up with sin in your life forever.  Hell is a real place.

Bountiful eyes – Prov 22:9.  He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed.  I know this is talking about men.  However, look what David said in Ps 13:6. “I will sing unto the Lord, because he hath dealt bountifully with me”.  The Lord is so merciful, gracious, and good when you do right in the eyes of the Lord, Deut 13:18. Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.  David found favor in the eyes of the Lord.  Hananiah said to Asa, “the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him”.  When you do something right in the eyes of the Lord, he doesn’t miss it.  He saw the widow’s mites.

And if you will turn to him and do right today, he will not miss it.  He is ready and willing to forgive you of all your sins and to save your soul if you will believe on Jesus Christ today.  That’s the right thing to do in his eyes.

Gentle eyes – Song 5:12.  His eyes are as the eyes of doves.  When you get close to the Lord, this is what you notice about his eyes.  And when you get close to the Lord, his eyes affect your eyes.  He says of his bride in Song 1:15 “Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hast doves eyes”.  The fruit of the Spirit in gentleness.

Conclusion if you aren’t saved yet, you should believe on the Lord Jesus Christ today. If you are a believer, you should consider what you have learned about the eyes of the Lord, and draw closer to him as a result. For another sermon on this topic, see the radio broadcast entitled The Eyes of God.
