Components of Giving Prov. 11: 24 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
Those who give and never have to be reminded to give or never have to be pressured to give possess some basic components of giving. These are:
A Liberal Soul – Prov 11:24-25 – like the Macedonians who, Paul said, “first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God,” [2 Cor 8:5].
A Willing Spirit – Ex 35:21 – giving that is pleasing to the Lord is spiritual and is prompted in us by the Spirit of God – 1 Pet 2:5; Heb 13:15-16.
A Ready Mind – 2 Cor 8:12, 19 – that is your mind ought to be ready to follow the Spirit’s lead in giving – you should be convinced that this is something that the Lord wants you to do and that you have not been intimidated or manipulated into it, thus relieving the grudge and necessity of 2 Cor 9:7.
A Purposeful Heart – 2 Cor 9:6-7 – your heart is resolved, full of determination, and guided by a definite aim – that way when things are tight, like they were for the Macedonians, you are able to still give cheerfully [2 Cor 8:2].
A Bountiful Eye – Prov 22:9 – your eye needs to be tuned to spot a need so that you can meet it.
Ministering Hands – Acts 20:34-35 – your labour is not all for your own mouth – by labouring to give you rejoice more in your labour because you now it is the means by which you can give.
A Munificent God – 1 Chr 29:10-16 – our Lord is characterized by great liberality and generosity – we would have nothing to give if it weren’t for him – he is the source of all supply and all giving and we have nothing but Him about which we can boast!!
Conclusion: Review these components of giving and realize that they start within you. If there is a problem, it is not with your pocketbook or your checkbook and it is not with the Lord!! Go to work on the spiritual components and you will never have a problem with giving again.
