The Redemption of the Soul

Redemption of the Soul

(Psalm 49:7-9)

In the passage above we see that the redemption of the soul is precious. Here we will give an detailed look at the process that redeems our soul and also show that it is connected with the fact that one day our bodies will be redeemed as well giving us the completed picture.

The Problem with our Soul:

When Adam sinned in the garden of Eden it had affected is soul. Before he sinned he was in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-28). After Adam sinned his children were born in his image (Genesis 5:3). It is also important to note that after Adam sinned God would not allow him to eat of the tree of life because he did not want his flesh to live forever with the soul in a sinful state (Genesis 3:22).

Spiritual Circumcision:

After the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ there is an operation of God that takes place when we are saved that is called spiritual circumcision (Colossians 2:9-13). This is a process whereby God separates between the body and the soul. The soul is sealed (Ephesians 1:13-14 ; 4:30) by the Holy Spirit. This is connected directly with being baptized by the Holy Ghost into the body of Christ (Colossians 2:13 ; 2 Corinthians 12:12-13 ; Galatians 3:27-28).

This is what gives us eternal security in Christ Jesus. Also as a result of this there is a new man on the inside of us that is created in the image of God (Colossians 3:10 ; Ephesians 4:22-24)

What about the Flesh?

The above process does not redeem or do anything to our flesh. But in the resurrection our flesh will be redeemed (Romans 8:23 ; Ephesians 1:14 ; 1 Corinthians 15:51-57). Then we will be conformed to the image of Jesus Christ (Romans 8:29). This will give us the completed picture a redeemed soul in a body that can live forever, which is what God originally wanted for man.
