The Greatest Conspiracy Ever

The Greatest Conspiracy Ever

(John 8:12-58)

In today’s world we are no strangers to conspiracy theories. But we must note the word theory, a theory is something that has not been proven to be true. Why are people so willing to believe the wildest theories and accept the unproven over the proven? Personally I believe it has to do with the spirit of anti-christ and his work in the days leading up to the Tribulation (1 John 4:1-3 ; 2 Thessalonians 2:3-11). As we see in our text for this sermon Satan is not only a liar but he is the father of it (John 8:44).

This brings us to the thought for this sermon, The Greatest Conspiracy ever. Here we are going to look at three places in the word of God to show how Satan conspired to mess up not only God’s relationship with man but the method of Salvation.

1) “Thou shalt not surely die” (Genesis 3:1-7)

  • Adam and Eve were given one true commandment (Genesis 2:16-17).
  • Satan came along and question the truth of God’s word (Genesis 3:1)
  • Satan substitutes a lie for God’s truth (Genesis 3:4)
  • Satan gives the element of conspiracy, God is hiding something from you (Genesis 3:5).

Result: Man sins through quest of knowledge and man is doomed in sin (Romans 5:12)

2)  “Make us gods” (Exodus 32:1-8)

  • Moses is up on the mount receiving the Law, Israel thinks he has been gone to long and they get Aaron to make them a golden calf.
  • Why the calf, this is what they had seen in Egypt. But also the calf is connected with Satan (Ezekiel 28:14 ; Ezekiel 1,10 ; Revelation 4:6-7). The cherub is connected with a cow, no wonder so many religions consider the cow as sacred or worship it.
  • Note that once the cow was made it is given credit for delivering them from Egypt (Exodus 32:4).

Result: Satan replaces God with a type of himself even if man does not realize that they are worshipping him instead of God. This calf as a God will plague Israel and mankind for many years.

3)  “We were never in bondage” (John 8:33)

  • The Pharisees were disputing with Jesus in regards to Jesus being who he said he was. Even though Jesus was talking about the bondage of sin, they were still lying because they had been in bondage in Egypt for over 400 years. Here we see the religious group of the day refusing to believe their own history. Sound familiar?
  • After Jesus connects them to the father of lies (verse 44), they justify themselves in saying that he has a devil and note the conspiracy of the day, they were saying that Jesus was a Samaritan (verse 48). This would connect Jesus with the anti-christ.
  • This also takes us back to 1 John 4:1-3 that Jesus Christ did not come in the flesh.
  • So with all the prophesies saying that Jesus would come here are the Pharisees denying that Jesus was God.

Result: Satan through centuries of lies and deceit now gets a conspiracy going against Jesus Christ that he is not who he says that he is. Now the very person that they need to take away their sin is standing before him and they are calling him the devil.

Question: What do you believe about Jesus Christ?

The reason that we said this is the greatest conspiracy ever is because Satan has been pulling this con for around six thousand years. Even still today people believe that there is some other way than Jesus Christ. But the truth is he is the only means of Salvation (Acts 4:12) and the only way to heaven (John 14:6).

But the real question is, what do you believe?
