God’s View on Pride Ps. 16 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO

In this sermon we will read many verses so that we can get God’s view on pride.

God’s Attitude –

  • Pride is an abomination – Prov 16:5
  • Pride is sin – Prov 21:4
  • God resisteth the proud – Jas 4:6
  • God is able to abase the proud – Dan 4:37

God’s Explanation – Pride:

  • Is of the world – 1 Jn 2:16
  • Is in your heart – Mk 7:21-23
  • Stems from self-love – 2 Tim 3:2

God’s Description – Pride:

  • Deceives you – Oba 3
  • Hardens your mind – Dan 5:20
  • Keeps you from seeking God – Ps 10:4
  • Stirs up strife – Prove 28:25 – pride is the cause of contention; pride will cause you to use your mouth to beat someone [i.e., control them through manipulation]
  • Makes you a scorner – Prov 21:24
  • Destroys you – Prov 16:18 – after it has brought you low [Prov 29:23] and shamed you [Prov 11:2]

God’s Remedy –

  • You must humble yourself – 2 Chr 32:26
  • You must fear the Lord – Prov 8:13 – if you say that you fear the Lord and you still see this evidence of pride in your life then you do not fear the Lord enough – perhaps your problem is that you fear men, instead.
