Brought Out Deut. 6:21-23 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
The full title of this message comes from the text, “He brought us out to bring us in.” We were brought out of “Egypt” and taken to “the Promised Land” when we received Jesus as our Savior.
There were three things going on in Egypt that caused the Lord to send Moses to get the Jews out of there: cruel slavery, a hopeless future, and the slaughter of their children. God had to bring them out of there to bring them into the Promised Land, where they would be free, have a bright and certain future, and be able to live. These are the same reasons why God had to send Jesus.
He brings us out of bondage to bring us into liberty – In Egypt the Jews were enslaved servants. When Moses took them out they were the free child of God [Ex4:22-23]. All of this changed in a night. That was over 3,500 years ago and the Jews still celebrate that night with the Passover.
We have all been in bondage as the servants of sin [Jn8:34] and have sought liberty in religion. We found out that we were the slaves of religion [Gal 4:1-6] and the slaves of sin at the same time. We were in bondage to “do’s” and “don’ts” in order to be righteous enough to pass our judgment before God. There’s no liberty in that.
When God got those Jews out of Egypt, their bondage was done; they were out and it was finished. For us, Jesus Christ is the deliverer [Jn8:32, 36]. We are free in his righteousness. He already fulfilled the strictest religion on earth. When you accept him, you are righteous in him and you are a child of God. It takes place in a moment, just like when the Jews left Egypt.
He brought them out of darkness to bring them into light – The Jews left Egypt in the middle of the night. They left the Dark Continent. They were led by a pillar of fire. And they had the light of the Lord.
Every man/woman in religion is in darkness; you have no certainty where your religion will lead you. You are in the dark. But you can come out of that darkness in Jesus who is the light of the world [Jn 8:12; 1 Pet 2:9].
He brought them out of dearth to bring them into life – Their babies were being killed, the adults were dying from the cruel bondage, and their wages were death. When God freed them from Egypt they wandered in the wilderness and didn’t have to pay for a thing. It was all free!
For us, the wages of sin is death [Rom6:23]. We were dead in trespasses and sins [Eph 2:1]. But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ. There is nothing in religion that can impart life to you. But in Jesus Christ you have abundant and eternal life, Jn 10:10. He that hath the Son hath life! [1 Jn 5:12].
