Zech 13:6 is a future prophecy concerning the Lord Jesus Christ.  They will say, “What are these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.”  Jesus’ hands are scarred for eternity.

  • Ps 22:16 they pierced my hands and my feet
  • Jn 19:18 they crucified him
  • Jn 19:34 one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side

As a verse of Arise, My Soul says, “Five bleeding wounds he bears, Received on Calvary…”

These wounds in thine hands are:

A Revelation – Jn 20:25 Thomas said, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.  That’s how people will know him.  In the hymn My Savior First of All, we sing in the chorus: “I shall know him, I shall know him, And redeemed by his side I shall stand; I shall know him, I shall know him, By the print of the nails in his hand.”

In Zech 12:10, “they shall look upon me whom they have pierced.”  As a side note, you will notice in the context that “me” is the LORD.  This is a good passage on the deity of Christ.  In Rev 1:7, “every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him.”  They will know who he is by his wounds.

A Reminder – Rev 5:8-9 “… thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation.”  This group of saints praising the Lord Jesus Christ are the people saved in the church age, who have been raptured to heaven.  People are saved from every part of the world.  1 Pet 2:24 says, “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.”

We have so much to be thankful for.  Jesus died for us.  Those scars are for our sins and our redemption.  He took the punishment for us.  Like infantrymen and special forces, we have a captain who “took the bullet” for us, so we could live.  If you ever doubt his love for you, just remember what he did for you.

These wounds are also a reminder that those scars are for those who don’t know the Lord yet.  And we can tell them about Jesus’ death for them and they, too, can be saved.  If you are ever intimidated by the faces of those to whom the Spirit wants you to witness, just look at these wounds, rather than their faces.  You will certainly be more desirous to speak of his love and sacrifice for them.

A Relief – Eph 5:27, when the Lord presents the church to himself, he will present it “to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.”  We will be without spot or blemish; he’s scarred for eternity.  Jesus will always bear the scars for our sins.

So, I don’t have to bear my “scars” from sin.  I’m not talking about reaping and sowing, but rather about the scars, after the reaping.  For instance, in Heb 11:31, when referring to Rahab’s faith when she “perished not with them that believed not” and in Jas 2:25, when she was “justified by works,” she was called Rahab the harlot.  But in Matt 1:5, she is simply called Rachab.  After she was justified and “saved,” Rahab married Salmon, and had a child named Boaz.  Rahab is King David’s great, great grandmother.  She is in the line of Christ.

Likewise, when we are in Christ, we are new creatures.  Old things are passed away.  The scars of our sins are on Jesus.  Rather than look for emotional scars, physical scars, mental scars, etc., look to the scars on Jesus.  “Draw me nearer, nearer blessed Lord, to the cross where thou hast died.  Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer blessed Lord, to thy precious, bleeding side.”  What a relief.

Conclusion: look for the scars when you’re looking for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ that’s how you’ll know him for sure.  Too many Christians are looking for the antichrist.  He’s alive and well, but his revelation is still “let.”  Quit looking at what he’s doing and look for the Lord.  Let these wounds be a reminder of all that Jesus has done for us.  What a great Savior.  Let them be a reminder that he died for others, too.  And these wounds will be a relief anytime your mind wants to look back… look instead at his wounds.  By his stripes ye were healed.
