Are You Going To Heaven?
I’m going to preach on how to know you’re going to heaven.
It’s not a subject most people think about unless:
- You’re a child hearing a message on hell and you’re scared about going there.
- You’re an adult nearing the time of death and you want to make sure you’re going to heaven.
- You’re a person confronted with the topic because someone has asked you, “If you died tonight are you 100% sure you’re going to heaven”?
Well, since you’re not the first two, I’ll be the preacher and you can be the person confronted. If you died tonight are you 100% sure you would go to heaven?
If you think so, or hope so, you’re not 100% sure. You gotta know. And you can know. 1 Jn 5:13, “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life…”.
There are 5 things you need to know to know for sure that you have eternal life and that you’re going to heaven when you die. Three of these are negative and two are positive.
First, everyone here is sinner. Rom 3:23. And you have “come short of the glory of God”. You can’t get to him on your own.
Second, everyone here is going to be judged. Heb 9:27. God won’t judge your good versus your bad. It’s you versus Jesus. You must equal his righteousness.
Third, everyone here is going to die. Rom 6:23, “The wages of sin is death”. This verse gives you the spiritual explanation for physical death. Unless you’ve read Rev 21:8, what you didn’t know is there is a second death.
“But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death”. All liars will burn. Everyone here has lied, Rom 3:4.
If there is nothing more to the gospel than this bad news, then you are a sinner, short of the glory of God, facing a judgment against the righteousness of Jesus Christ, and heading to the lake of fire for lying. You’re doomed.
We’ve covered this bad news first because you don’t need saving unless you’re lost, anymore than you need the Coast Guard unless you are in danger of drowning offshore.
So, now the positive news.
Fourth, Jesus died for everyone here. 2 Cor 5:17. Jesus became a sinner and died for every sin every sinner has ever committed. He was judged and he died, but he rose again. And when you believe on him he not only takes away your sins, but also gives you his righteousness.
Rom 6:23, “…but gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”.
Fifth, everyone here can be saved, today. The Bible says about God our Saviour, “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all…”. You come to the Father through Jesus, Jn 14:6.
In Jn 1:12, you become a son of God when you receive Jesus Christ. In 1 Jn 5:12, “He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life”. If you’ve got him, you’re saved.
How do you receive Jesus? You ask. Jn 16:24 says, “ask, and ye shall receive”. Rom 10:13, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved”.
Ask Jesus to save you today and be 100% sure that you’re going to heaven when you die.
