My Heart is Fixed

“My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed,” David sang and praised the Lord.  His heart was truly fixed.  When you are saved, you can sing with David, My heart is fixed:

In the sense that it has been fixed permanently (like color is fixed in dyeing) – your heart is permanently white as snow, Is 1:18 – your scarlet sins have been washed in the blood of Jesus and your old wicked heart has been purged of its old sins and now it is clean and clear.

In the sense of being fastened securely – Jesus has fastened our hearts to him and his heart to us in an inseparable bond of charity [Rom 8:35-39] – now your old insecure heart can rest assured that you have a friend and Savior forever.

In the sense of being restored to its proper condition – it was defiled by sin, broken by sin, broken by others, and God is there to fix your broken, battered, defiled heart – you can’t really help him with this process but you can surely get in his way – you need to let him have all the pieces so he can put it back together totally – Adrian Rogers said, “Christ won’t TRANSFORM your problem until you TRANSFER it to him”

In the sense of being arranged properly (like fixing flowers or hair) – hair has to be fixed frequently and regularly – this is where the Lord takes our old worldly heart and fixes in us a love for him, his word, his will, and his ways so that we desire the things of God and not the things of this world – we get fixed on a daily, moment by moment basis – as a preacher said, “God loves us just the way we are but he loves us too much to leave us that way.”

In the sense of being directed steadily (like fixing your eyes on a target) – when our goal is heaven, our affections are above, and our eyes are on Jesus, then our hearts are not distracted by other things – the songwriter said, “Prone to wander, Lord I feel it, prone to leave the God I love” – but when our hearts are fixed on heaven above, we don’t wander – we look right on – that’s what kept Paul and Jesus in the race.

Conclusion: You know you’ll be judged after this life – well, here’s a little insight from the scripture – the judgment is “fixed” – the judge and your attorney are related – the devil doesn’t stand a chance – if you will receive Jesus then you will be guaranteed a place in heaven – and you can enjoy life with a heart that’s fixed!!
