Two Witnesses Killed, Rev 11:7-11

Two Witnesses Killed

After the two witnesses finish their 42 months of prophesying, accompanied by their miraculous power, they are killed by the beast and left for dead for three and a half days while the world celebrates their death.  Suddenly, they are resurrected and ascend into heaven.  Following their ascent, a great earthquake hits Jerusalem and a tenth part of the city falls, killing 7,000 people, and scaring the remnant into giving glory to God.  Here are the details of the two witnesses killed:

7 – They finish their testimony – like Jesus [John 19:30] – like Paul [2 Timothy 4:7] – until they finish their prophecy, nothing will stop them – like Jeremiah 1:17-19

7 – The beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit [Revelation 17:8] makes war with, overcomes and kills them – that’s because he is very powerful [2 Thessalonians 2:9] and they are finished with their testimony – there is one more thing the Lord wants to do with them and they must die for him to accomplish it – he is going to miraculously raise them from the dead before the eyes of the whole world

8 – Their dead bodies are left in the street – as a display to everyone that they are dead – they will probably be beheaded [Revelation 20:4] – John the Baptist fulfilled the ministry of Elijah had Israel received the kingdom and he was beheaded [Matthew 11:12-14; Matthew 14:10] – and coincidentally, Herod believed that Jesus was John risen from the dead [Matthew 14:2]

8 – They are in Jerusalem – that’s where our Lord was crucified – it is spiritually called Sodom and Gomorrah because the Antichrist is there [Revelation 11:2; 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4] and because the Lord is prepared to destroy the place if the people don’t repent [Isaiah 1:9-10]

9 – People worldwide [people, kindreds, tongues and nations] can see their dead bodies in the street – possible now because of television and the internet

9 – They see them for 3 ½ days and don’t bury them – [Psalms 79:1-3] – probably in retaliation for prophecies like Jeremiah 14:13-16

10 – People worldwide rejoice over them, making merry and exchanging gifts [like a huge Christmas celebration] – but there rejoicing is only temporary because soon the Lord comes in vengeance and laughs at their calamity [Proverbs 1:24-33]

10 – They are happy because the two prophets tormented them – with their power [Revelation 11:5-6] – the two witnesses are trying to turn them back to God [Malachi 4:4-6] – however, good preachers are viewed negatively by people who reject the truth [1 Kings 18:17-18; Luke 6:23, 26]

11 – After 3 ½ days the Spirit of life from God enters them – [Genesis 2:7; James 2:26; Ezekiel 37:13-14]
