Whosoever, Rom 10:13

Whosoever Rom. 10:13 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO

In the Bible we find two references to the word whosoever that describe two completely different groups of people.  Rom 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”  That’s one group; they’re saved.  Rev 20:15 says, “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”  That’s the other group; they’re lost.  We’re going to study these two groups.

Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord – Rom 10:13 – You are saved by simply calling upon the name of the Lord.  Rom 10:9-10 shows you that the confession of your mouth matches the belief in your heart.  And it doesn’t make any difference what kind of person you are.  The verse says “whosoever.”  Christ died for the ungodly [Rom 5:6].  Christ died for sinners [Rom 5:8].  Christ died for his enemies [Rom 5:10].  Christ died for whosoever will call upon his name.

Whosoever was not found written in the book of life – Rev 20:15 – If your name is not in the book of life you will be cast into the lake of fire.

  • Regardless of your goodness – hell is full of people who thought they were “good” [Rom 3:12], who thought that God should have been impressed enough with them to let them into heaven [Lk 18:10-14; Matt 7:21-23].
  • Regardless of your religion – hell is full of religious people – there are probably more religious people in hell than any other group [Matt 23:33].
  • Regardless of your philosophy – hell is full of people whose philosophies taught them to believe that hell was not real; that hell was just some sort of religious concept thought up by men.

Conclusion: If you haven’t trusted Jesus in your heart and called upon the name of the Lord, then your name is not in the book of life and you are not saved.  You will be cast into the lake of fire at the white throne judgment.  That’s all there is to it.  You’ll be there with Pilate and Judas and all of the other sinners who thought they were good enough to get by the judgment of God without Jesus [Jn 3:18, 36].

If you have called upon the name of the Lord then your name is in the book of life along with all the others who have called upon his name like the thief on the cross [Lk 23:42], the Ethiopian eunuch [Acts 8:37], and Paul’s fellow laborers [Phil 4:3].

If you haven’t called upon the name of the Lord yet, but realize now that you want to, then by all means, call upon the name of the Lord right now.  Be the very next whosoever who has his name written in the book of life.  I’ll be looking forward to seeing you in heaven if we never get a chance to meet on this side of glory!!
