Bible Believers Baptist Church was started in a bunk house on a ranch outside of Corpus Christi. During the early days, we started the radio ministry, “The Unknown Bible.” It is broadcast on KCTA, AM 1030, at 4:00 pm weekdays and covers the entire Texas Gulf Coast. We also launched our website, www.unknownbible.com, on which we posted audio sermons, radio broadcasts, Sunday school lessons, and the answers to interesting questions. Moreover, during this time we began giving faithfully to missions. We started missions giving in November of 2000 and began regular monthly support for our missionaries in March of 2001.
Men, women and children have been consistently saved over the years, thanks to the Lord and the power of his words. We typically have baptized our converts at special baptism services at Lake Mathis. However, when it was inconvenient to travel to the lake for a service, we used our portable baptistery. This ordinarily worked well. On one occasion, though, we baptized a young man who was 6’ 5” and about 275 lbs. He went down a little too fast and caused a tsunami which soaked the fellow holding his towel. You could surely hear the saints “rejoicing” over his baptism that day.
With the addition of souls to the church, it became necessary to begin construction of our own multi-purpose facility in May of 2005. We completed the building in January of 2006 and held our first service in our debt-free, 6000 square foot building on January 22, 2006. The Lord blessed abundantly to allow us to pay cash for this building. Interestingly, missions giving actually increased during the construction of the building. This is just further evidence that Luke 6:38 is absolutely true.
Our church continues to grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the number of souls saved. In the last few years, as the church has grown, we have added graded Sunday school classes, led by Associate Pastor and Sunday School Superintendent Randy Knupple, a Youth Ministry, now led by our Youth Pastor, Tony Seale, a Young Adult Ministry, led by Bryan Boatman, a Music Ministry, led by Bobby McCarty, a Master Club, led by Maureen Knupple, and a well staffed nursery, under the direction of Brook Sowell. Our office has been staffed for over 10 years by our wonderful secretary, Kim Bush. We are currently finalizing the plans for a larger auditorium [Phase II of our site plan] to accommodate the growth of the church. And we have added 2 modular buildings for additional Sunday school and activity space.
We thank the Lord for his goodness and for honoring the preaching and teaching of his words. If it were not for his words in the Authorized Version and for his saving grace, none of this that you have read in our history would have been possible. Praise the Lord!
