News for August 2012

The modular buildings are essentially completed and now we are adding the finishing touches so that they will be ready for the teen and college and career classes to start meeting in them onSunday, September 2, 2012.  The Seale’s will continue to teach the Teen class and the Knupple’s will be in charge of the college and career class.

The metal for the new building arrived August 15 and assembly began early the next morning.  This part of the construction generally moves along quite rapidly and so the landscape around here is going to change substantially.  The schedule for completing Phase I of the new building is moving along nicely and, hopefully, it won’t be long before we can begin working on the inside.

Since we are not financing this construction, we are building it in phases.  Phase I includes 75% of the site work, 95% of the HVAC, the complete building shell dried in and roofed, and the rough electrical, plumbing and sprinkler system.  So, that will put us at around 2/3rds of the way to completion.

The discipleship classes have been well attended and the material being presented will equip the saints to not only lead a soul to Christ but help him begin growing in the grace and the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.  We are covering these topics: the word of God, eternal security, the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer, prayer, sin, dealing with others, the Lord’s supper and baptism, and the local church.

The special evangelistic service on August 12 went very well.  We had many visitors and the singing, drama and sermon were very inspiring and convicting.  After the invitation we asked those who had received Christ or who were interested in knowing more about him to request a New Testament from the ushers at the exits.  Eight people requested New Testaments.  Our follow-up work with them will reveal how many of these actually received Jesus.  This is the first time we have ever incorporated a drama into the service to illustrate the sermon.  It was very effective.

The New Testaments that are being specially printed for our Bible distribution project have been ordered.  They are from Word of Faith Publishing Ministry inTacoma,WA.  They include a unique cover design, displaying the harbor bridge inCorpus   Christi.  We will distribute these in the neighborhoods around where our church members live as a gift and as an opening to preach the gospel.  Lord willing, many will receive the gifts of the words of God and the Lord Jesus Christ.  The Bibles should be delivered in October.
