The Benefits of Contentment

Contentment is one of the greatest spiritual qualities of our salvation.  We often don’t consider how beneficial it is to our lives.  So, today we are going to see how contentment improves everything from our spiritual growth to our marriages.

Contentment:

Improves Your Walk With God

Heb 13:5-6. If we can be content with the fact that Christ said, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee”, then it matters not what circumstances we face or what trials we are in. The Lord is there with us through everything: medical tests, childbirth, financial difficulties, the death of a loved one, a job change, a deployment, or whatever. The Lord is right there with you through the whole thing. Acknowledge him and trust him and be content with him, regardless of the outcome.

Improves Your Marriage

Heb 13:4-5. One of the reasons that there is so much pressure on married couples is that they are covetous. They continually break the tenth commandment. The husband starts eyeing another woman thinking that she has something he wants that he can’t get from his wife. His wife does the same thing with another man. If they would just be content with each other, and they can, they would be happy with each other and without anyone else.

Improves Your Budget

1 Tim 6:8. Often in a household, the wife covets clothes, shoes, and the like which she and her husband can’t afford and he covets boats, guns and trucks they can’t afford. The accumulation of debt and possessions strangles the family and robs them of their joy and peace. Contentment allows you to be satisfied with nothing more than the clothes on your back and the food on your table. These are enough to the content man and woman. They are all that Jesus ever had. You see, your financial problems aren’t solved by bringing in more money [Lk 3:14] they are solved by becoming more content.

Improves Your Spiritual Strength

Phil 4:11-13. Paul had to learn to be content in whatsoever state he was in. Whether he was abased or whether he abounded he learned to be content. He didn’t forget God when he was full and he didn’t complain when he was hungry. He knew that he could do all things through Christ. You will never have that strength without contentment.

Improves Your Spirituality

1 Tim 6:6. It is the work of the Holy Spirit to conform us to the image of Jesus Christ, to make us godly. His fruit in our lives is evidence of godliness in our lives. And when you can have godliness, what else could you possibly want. The Lord wants us to be content with godliness. He promised that godliness with contentment is great gain. You will never know that gain until you experience godliness with contentment for yourself. In the meantime, you need to trust that the Lord is being truthful with you. The scripture, the Holy Spirit and Paul all testify in this passage that godliness with contentment is great gain. This is the epitome of spirituality.

Conclusion to the Benefits of Contentment

With contentment you don’t need one more thing in your life. You can be content with whatever the Lord provides.
