For His Pleasure

For His Pleasure (Revelation 4:11)

After reading through the entire Bible we find a very unique verse in the book of Revelation.  This verse gives us the reason that God created everything that was created. Everything was created for his pleasure. This will include man and therefore when asked the question of why we are here or what is our purpose in life the answer should be to bring pleasure to God.

There are some other verse in the New Testament that also show us that as saved people one of our main concerns should be pleasing God. (Galatians 1:10 ; Colossians 1:10 ; 2 Timothy 2:3-4)

Have you ever asked yourself the question how can I please God? The word of God gives us some definite things we can do to please God. In this lesson we will look at some of these things. When we look at ways to please God we will look at it from the angle of a child bringing pleasure to a parent. After all if we are saved then God is our father.

Things we can do that please God :

1)  Having obedience to the authorities that he has given us (Colossians 3:20)

  • As seen from the verse it is pleasing unto God when we obey our parents.
  • From the view point of a parent no parents wants to raise an unruly or rebellious child.

2)  To Grow and Mature (Ephesians 2:21; 4:15 ; 2 Peter 3:18)

  • One of the saddest things is to see a teenager or an adult that still acts like a child and in society today this is a very common thing.
  • God desires for his children to grow and spiritually mature (Romans 8:5-8).
  • This kind of spiritual maturity can only come from spending time in God word (2 Peter 2:2) and practicing what it says (Hebrews 5:11-14)

3)  Walk in a way that pleases him (2 John 4)

  • Once we spend time in the word of God and start to mature spiritually there are some things in our lives that should change. We should look a little different , we should act a little different because the word of God will correct things in our lives that are contrary to the word of God.
  • In 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8 we can see some things about or walk pleasing the Lord.
  • Also we see in Ecclesiastes 7:26 how that when a young man escapes temptation it pleases the Lord.

In conclusion to this subject of pleasing God we would like to point out that doing the above things are very hard in the day and age we live in. But if we look doing what God says because it pleases him instead of a list of do’s and don’ts then it will be easier to do what we are supposed to do.
