Because Jesus was born of a virgin:

Old Testament prophecies were fulfilled – Is 7:14 the prophecy given to Ahaz as a sign that Syria and Ephraim would be forsaken of their kings.  Gen 3:15, the first Messianic prophecy. Gen 22:8, the prophecy that Abraham gave to Isaac regarding the lamb.  Ps 2:7, the prophecy that on a particular day, God would beget a Son.  His Son would have to be born of a woman to be “begotten.”  In Matt 1:25, he is Mary’s firstborn because she had four other sons and at least two daughters, as well [Mk 6:3].  Num 24:17, the prophecy concerning Star [Matt 2:2].

God manifested himself in flesh – 1 Tim 3:16 – the Jews got it wrong in Jn 10:33.  They should have said, “… thou, being God, makest thyself a man,” which is what Paul said in Phil 2:5-7.  Jesus’ blood was God’s blood [Acts 20:28].  His name shall be called Immanuel, which means “God with us” [Is 7:14; Matt 1:23].  He was literally the Son of God and the Son of Man.

The royal line of David was restored – Jer 22:24-30 – The Lord prophesied that Jesus would sit on the throne of David [Is 9:6-7; Lk 1:31-33].  So, God needed a descendent of David but not a direct descendent of Coniah.  For, in Jer 22:30, the Lord said “Write ye this man childless, a man that shall not prosper in his days: for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah.”  Coniah is Jeconiah minus the “Je” [as in Jehovah].  Jeconiah is another name for Jehoiachin.  Jehoiachin was Josiah’s grandson, the last generation of David’s line to rule over Judah before Nebuchadnezzar’s captivity [2 Ki 24:15; 25:27-30].  Jesus could not have been Coniah’s direct descendent or he would not have been able to rule on David’s throne.  The virgin birth took care of this problem [Lk 1:34-35].

Conclusion: while you are celebrating the birth of Jesus, keep these three accomplishments of the virgin birth of Jesus in mind.  They will give you a greater appreciation for what God did when He begat Jesus our Savior.proph
