Satan Cast Out Ezek. 28:16

Originally, the devil was the anointed cherub that covereth [Ezek 28:14].  To see what he covered we need to look back to Ezek 1 and 10.  According to Ezek 1:4-10, there were four creatures that appeared by the river of Chebar.  Above their heads was a firmament [Ezek 1:22].  And above the firmament was the likeness of a throne [Ezek 1:26] with “the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it,” [Ezek 1:26].  According to Ezek 10:20-22, the appearance of the man was the God of Israel and the creatures were cherubims.  Evidently, then, Satan was originally Lucifer, the “fifth” cherub, and he would have been the covering above the Lord God.

From this position he determined to exalt himself to be like the most high.  He said, “I will ascend into heaven,” [Is 14:13]; “I will exalt my throne above the stars of God,” [Is 14:13]; “I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation,” [Is 14:13]; “I will ascend above the heights of the clouds,” [Is 14:14]; and “I will be like the most high,” [Is 14:14].  He counterfeits Jesus.

Because Satan sinned in his five proclamations of “I will” to exalt himself, the Lord countered with five proclamations of “I will” to destroy him.  The Lord said, “I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God,” [Ezek 28:16]; “I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire,” [Ezek 28:16]; “I will cast thee to the ground,” [Ezek 28:17]; “I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee,” [Ezek 28:17]; and “I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee,” [Ezek 28:18].

Thus, was Satan cast out – we can find the five times he has either been cast out or will be cast out until he ends up ultimately in the lake of fire.  We see:

Satan cast out of the third heaven [Ezek 28:16, out of the mountain of God, Ezek 28:16] – he was cast out from covering the throne to the 2nd heaven [notice the second day, when the 2nd heaven was made, is the only day that is not called “good” (Gen 1:6-8)] – this is when he went from being called Lucifer [the light bearer] to being called Satan [the Devil].

Satan cast out of the second heaven [Jn 12:31] (from the midst of the stones of fire, Ezek 28:16) – he was cast out from the 2nd heaven when Jesus Christ spoiled him at the cross and openly made a show of him triumphantly [Col 2:15].

Satan cast out of the first heaven [Rev 12:9] (to the ground, Ezek 28:17) – he will be cast out of the 1st heaven to the earth during the tribulation at which time he will eventually be manifest in the flesh of the antichrist and be revealed as the man of sin, the son of perdition [2 Thes 2].

Satan cast into the bottomless pit [Rev 20:2-3] (laid before kings, Ezek 28:17) – here he will be chained for a thousand years until the end of the millennial reign of Jesus, when he will be loosed and devoured by fire in Rev 20:9 [see below].

Satan cast into the lake of fire [Rev 20:10] (the body of this seven-headed dragon will be brought to ashes upon the earth, Ezek 28:18) – his soul will spend eternity in the lake of fire with everyone who rejected Jesus Christ.

Conclusion: Therefore, you know the end of the devil and the end of everyone who follows him [Matt 25:41] – so, whatever you do, do not reject the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour – receive him today and enter into eternal life with him [Jn 3:16].
