This lesson is on what the Bible says about the gospel in 2 Cor 5:21, “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”

In this verse of scripture, we find one of the most profound truths in the Bible.  On the cross of Calvary, God Almighty made his sinless Son, Jesus Christ, to be sin for us.  In other words, when Jesus was hanging on the cross, God made Jesus the adulterer you are; God made Jesus the liar you are; God made Jesus the thief you are or the idolater you are or whatever kind of sinner you are… God made Jesus that sin.

Jesus was accused of committing the sins you have committed and was charged with those sins as if he were the one who committed them.  God, the supreme and righteous judge, found Jesus guilty of sin… your sins.  And so he punished him for them.  That punishment was death because the Bible says, “The wages of sin is death.”  And that punishment finished it and completely paid for your sins.  Like Jesus said right before he died, “It is finished.”  It’s all done.

Now because Rev 21:8 says, “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death,” Jesus took your place in hell for three nights and three days.  In other words, he took care of everything concerning the penalty and punishment for your sins.

And then, thank God, he rose from the dead to prove that the eternal life he is offering you is real and everlasting.  As a matter of fact, if you look at the remainder of 2 Cor 5:21, you will see that in exchange for your sin, God Almighty is offering you the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ.  He said, “… that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”  Since Jesus was sinless, the perfect life he lived becomes your life in the same way that your sinful life became his life.

With Christ, you can stand before God today perfectly righteous.  Without Christ you are facing death and an eternity in the lake of fire.

Today God is offering you his righteousness in exchange for your sin if you will trust Jesus Christ and what he has already done for you on Calvary.  He has made the offer.  The question is. “Are you going to accept or reject?”  His righteousness for your sin… What do you say?

Our prayer is that you will receive Jesus and be saved.  Amen.
