God is Limited

We have heard and some of us have even said, “I don’t need to be in church.  I just worship God by myself.”  That isn’t true.

If God is going to do any redemptive work in you and in your family He is going to work in three places: the Bible, the body of Christ, and prayer.  We know God is all powerful and we know God has a will that doesn’t always get accomplished.  When we talk about the limits of God we are not talking about His power being limited, but the areas He chooses to work are limited.  What you do with these three things will determine your relationship with Him.

God is Limited to His Words

  • The Bible, the words of God produce the following things in believers:
    • Effectual work 1 Thessalonians 2:13,

    • Born Again 1 Peter 1:23,
    • Faith that pleases God Romans 10:17,
    • Furnished to all good works 2 Timothy 3:16-17
  • God is like a farmer
    • Luke 8:11… the seed is the word of God

God is Limited to His Body

  • The body of Christ.  God’s work while the Lord Jesus Christ was here centered around Him.  a body hast thou prepared me (Hebrews 10:5)  in him dwelt the fullness of the godhead bodily (Colossians 2:11)
    • Colossians 2:14-15; took the law that accused us and nailed it to the cross
    • John  1:29, Isaiah 53:5, 1 Peter 2:24, bore sins in his body
  • The body of Christ on the earth after he’s gone
    • Ephesians 5:30, Now, we are members of his body

    • Publishing the words of God to lost sinners Acts 13:47-49
    • Romans 10:14, the can’t hear without a preacher

God is Limited to the Prayers of His People

  • Proverbs 15:29, the Lord hears his saints
  • James 5:16-18, Elijah prays for no rain
  • Abraham prays for Abimelech in Genesis 20:7
  • Moses prays for Israel in Numbers 11:1-3
