A Sure Foundation

A Sure Foundation in Jesus Christ CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO

In Isaiah 28:16, Jesus Christ is depicted a stone, a sure foundation.  In truth, we find him to be:

A Foundation Stone – 1 Cor 3:11 – he is the rock upon which our Christian lives are founded and he is the foundation of the Church [Matt 16:18].  A foundation stone is not utilized for looks but for strength and thus in Is 53:2 we read, “he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.”  He is so string that even the gates of hell could not prevail against him.”  He is the best foundation.

A Tried Stone – Lk 23:35 – in the context of our text we find an overflowing scourge is coming [v.15].  Jesus was tried and scourged before he was crucified and he was found to have no fault in him at all.  Now he lives in us and when we are tried, we can have victory through him who has already been tempted in all points like as we are, yet without sin.  They rolled a stone across his grave to hold him.  But the stone couldn’t hold him.  Our tried stone is greater than sin, death, hell and the devil. Amen!!

A Precious Stone – 1 Pet 2:4-8 – when carbon is subjected to heat and pressure, it comes forth as a diamond, very precious indeed.  Following his trial, our Lord came forth as a precious stone.  “So precious is Jesus, my Saviour my King, His praise all the day long with rapture I sing, To him in my weakness for strength I can cling, For he is so precious to me.”

A Corner Stone – Dan 2:34-35, 44-45 – the principal corner stone on a pyramid is the cap stone.  That’s where Jesus is.  He is preeminent and all earthly kingdoms will be destroyed before him [Matt 21:42].  His is the only name whereby we may be saved [Acts 4:11-12].

Conclusion: We see then in Rom 10:9-13, that if you will call upon the name of the Lord Jesus Christ you will be saved.  Notice that in Is 28:16, 1 Pet 2:6 and Rom 10:11 we find that whosoever believeth shall not “make haste,” “be ashamed,” or “be confounded.”  All of these ways of quoting the verse are correct.  When you are saved by Jesus Christ, the chief corner stone, you do not have to make haste when confronted with your death, you are not ashamed of whom you believe and you will not be defeated, destroyed and damned, because your faith is on his sure foundation and your home in heaven is secure.
